Using Lighting to Create Ambience

Using Lighting to Create Ambience

We don’t know how long you’ve been in the region, but one thing you need to know if you’re in the events or hospitality business, is that Ramadan is big here, and it’s just around the corner! So, let’s talk ambience and how you can look the part, even as a Ramadan Rookie.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the most sacred month in the Islamic calendar. It’s a time of spiritual reflection through fasting, charitable deeds and connecting with family and friends. It’s celebrated globally, but as with everything else in the UAE, we do it bigger and better!

Why is ambience important?

Ambience is the key to your success, no matter what industry you’re in. According to Fantastic Man magazine (yeah, we read): “Customers want to be treated and feel special, and the ambience of an establishment most certainly contributes to these feelings. The right ambience will allow customers to look around and enjoy themselves, and maybe even stay longer than they planned, simply because they want to soak in the atmosphere of the place.”

In order to achieve that long-lasting impact, several elements need to be considered, but the simplest and most effective of them all is… (jazz hands) …Lighting! No matter how big or small your event is, to set the right mood you need to light stuff up.

The extensive variety of lights out there can make your head spin, or worse yet, set the wrong mood. So, here’s what you need to know about what Ramadan looks and feels like, before you flick the switch.

Setting the scene for Ramadan

When Ramadan starts the entire country transforms into the set of an Arabian Nights tale. Majestic tents and marquees are erected, inviting people from all walks of life to sit together and break their daily fast at what is known as Iftar– the first meal of the day after sunset.

To complement the warmth and generous spirit of the season and reflect traditional Emirati hospitality, we recommend using iconic elements that represent the season – one of which is the lantern or fanoos.

Intricate Arabic lanterns can be hung on the ceiling or placed on the floor to truly capture the spirit of the holy month. Whether it’s the lobby of the hotel, the terrace of a restaurant or a Ramadan tent, a little light goes a long way.

An authentic and safe solution

Now, we know what you’re thinking. Lanterns need candles or oil burners, which spells potential fire hazards. You want that dancing flame effect, but you’re not quite sure you want to risk burning the place down to get it. You’ll be happy to know, you can have you cake and eat it thank to our LED Firelamps!
